How sewer rates change

The notice says the sewer rate changes from $22.00 to $23.00 per 1,000 gallons for the first 1,000 gallons. The rate for each 1,000 gallons above that changes from $3.14 to $3.21, according to the notice. The notice ties these sewer changes to the October billing cycle and does not give a separate effective date.

Discount for customers 65 and older

Residential customers 65 or older can get a reduced rate of 50% per 1,000 gallons on water, the notice says. The sewer base rate has a 50% reduction for the same group. Customers must apply with the city and show proof of age.

Why the rates are rising

The notice says the increases are intended in part to support wastewater treatment plant improvements and to keep Monett eligible for State Revolving Fund financing. The proposed changes were presented to the City Council at its Jan. 28, 2025, meeting.

Future increases

Per Ordinance No. 9056, incremental rate increases are scheduled each October through 2029, according to the notice. The notice text reviewed for this story does not list the amounts for those later years.
